Our Underwriting Team Leader, Tom Steer, talks through his time at LendInvest and how the underwriting process has evolved.

How long have you been at LendInvest?

I have been at LendInvest since April 2019 so just over 2 years now.

How do you approach the underwriting process?

When underwriting you need to look at each application on its own merits, no two cases are the same and you need to have a flexible approach to reviewing applications for the best outcome for our clients as well as LendInvest.

How have the processes since you joined evolved over time?

The underwriting process has become a lot less manual with a wealth of technology coming through for us as a team. This helps us as underwriters as it simplifies our process whilst ensuring we make the right decisions on each case.

What technology is being used to make it simpler?

New processes such as open banking and our new in-house portal ‘Genesys’ have been developed and implemented into our underwriting procedure that make the searches much easier to conduct and review as well as ensuring that the decisioning is accurate from an underwriting perspective.

What do you think a good underwriting experience looks like?

A good underwriting experience is where you can create positive outcomes for both the clients as well as the bank ensuring a high degree of accuracy and customer service for our third party partners.
