Next up in our Behind the Scenes series is Esther Morley, MD – Homeowner Mortgages, where we learn more about the people at LendInvest beyond their roles.

Esther joined LendInvest in 2021 to establish and shape our Residential Mortgage proposition. She has over 22 years’ experience in Financial Services across the UK & Ireland Banking, Building Society and Specialist Lending sectors. We asked Esther 10 questions to understand more about her life outside of work:

1. What was your first job?

I worked in the Wimpy on a Saturday. Initially they put me on “front of house” but both parties realised that I may be better suited to something a little more “challenging” – I found my niche, cleaning toilets!

2. What is your all time favourite film?

Star Wars – A New Hope, the first film my Dad took me to see.

3. What pets do you have and what are their names?

A cat named Jess. She is an RSPCA rescue, a little black and white terror. Named after Postman Pat’s cat.

4. How do you spend your time outside of work?

Golf! I took  it up about 12 years ago after my football career ended (that’s another story). I am now absolutely obsessed.

5. What would your ideal weekend look like?

Golf, followed by a couple of drinks on the patio then out to dinner with friends.

6. What is your biggest fear?

Heights – I have a physical reaction to heights, particularly man made objects such as tall office blocks. Meetings in Canary Wharf fill me with dread!

7. If you could travel to any year in a time machine, what year would you travel and why?

The 1940s. My childhood was filled with bedtime stories from my Nan about the blitz and doodlebugs (they lived in Woolwich). It gave me an interest in how people experienced and survived through that period.

8. What’s the best piece of advice you have received?

Be yourself.

9. You have to sing karaoke, what song do you pick?

Have to? No “have to” about it, I’m straight up there! Bonnie Tyler, A Total Eclipse of the Heart (old school!). It really shows my lack of range!

10. What superpower would you choose and why?

I would love to be able to speak any language on a whim. Just be able to strike up a conversation with absolutely anybody / earwig on conversations.
