Each year we enjoy working together to mark both International Women’s Day and International Men’s Day and lend our voices to the themes and discussions each occasion shines a light on.
For this year’s International Men’s Day, we wanted to shine a light on the importance of talking for our male team members.
Mental health is a health issue growing in public prominence, especially among men. Men account for more than three-quarters of all suicides in the UK and on average more than 12 men a day take their own lives.
Considering the impact of mental health, we asked our colleagues to discuss how they could lessen the emotional burdens men face, both by encouraging themselves and their teammates to talk but also by being available to listen.
We also asked parents to share what advice they would give their sons as they get them ready to overcome the many challenges and opportunities life might create for them, and how a workplace can be a supportive environment for our male colleagues.
