Last week the world of FinTech united in London, the financial capital of the world, for the 2nd ever annual FinTech Week. LendInvest was there to capture all the action.

FinTech, or ‘financial technology’, is already shaking up the world of finance, and with an entire week dedicated to this sector, it looks set to shape the future of the industry. We went down to Tobacco Dock- one of London’s coolest conference venues- for two days of talks, seminars and networking with the world’s key FinTech businesses and startups.

FinTech Week Day 4

Day 4 began with an interesting panel discussion about FinTech PR and marketing with Matt Gazeley from Zopa, Rosine Squire from Capgemini and Richard Blakesley of EFH Global, moderated by Julio Romo of twofourseven. The main takeaway from the workshop was that it’s not all about beating the banks, it’s about the human aspect and building trust.

LendInvest’s Dave, Joel, Emma and Sophie were on hand to answer any questions about our company and chat with visitors.

Next up was lunch and it was some of the best conference catering we have seen! There were lamb skewers, sandwiches, crispy prawns, mini quiches, beef and artichoke bruschettas and even mini creme brûlées in egg cups!

After lunch we sat in on a talk called ‘Australian Invasion’, learning about some of Australia’s best startups, including CrowdfundUp, Stockspot, BookBuilds, Pin Payments and Lend2Fund.

The UKTI (UK Trade and Investment) invited 10 of Australia’s best FinTech companies to London for a week-long programme of visits, kicking off with a reception at The Australian High Commission. They had the opportunity to pitch at FinTech week, tour Level39 and make connection’s with some of the industry’s most influential players.

Since our CEO Christian Faes is Australian and several members of our team are also Aussie, it seemed only fitting to provide fellow Aussies with a spiritual home in London during FinTech week! We had beers, tim tams, Aussie treats and pizzas a-plenty!

Day 5 saw our CEO Christian giving a presentation down at Tobacco Dock about the potential for alt finance to reinvent the mortgage. He spoke about how difficult it can be to get a mortgage through traditional banks, often taking lots of paperwork and many weeks or months. Using the Barclays website as an example, he showed how outdated the application process with traditional lenders actually is, giving only options to visit a branch or request a call back.
